This 1995 Menres Vintage Port is a Colheita Port from the renowned Baro de Vila port house owned by Fernando van Zeller. This noble white Colheita Port offers a very special tasting experience. It has a creamy, coating texture. Its intense aroma is reminiscent of caramel, sultanas, figs, candied fruit, exotic fruit, and a very slight hint of roasted nuts. Just as classic as its productionwith hand harvesting and natural yeastsare the port wines from this family-owned port house. Served slightly chilled at approximately 10C, this port is particularly delicate, whether enjoyed on its own or as a stylish aperitif. Tip: Serve with salted nuts, olives, or sweet-and-salty pastries. It is also delicious with cakes and pastries containing yellow fruit and/or marzipan and nuts. Port wine, or simply port, is considered one of the world's noblest sweet wines. It is usually red, while white sweet wine is rarely found from its homeland, the Alto Douro region in Portugal's Douro Valley. The name comes from the Portuguese port city from which port was shipped long agoinitially mainly to Great Britainand began its successful journey. Port is a fortified wine in which fermentation is interrupted by adding brandy, preserving residual grape sugar. Therefore, even a very old port with predominantly pronounced aging aromas remains somewhat fruity and sweet. Colheitas are particularly interesting because the bottling year varies from quinta to quinta (Portuguese for winery) and is also indicated on the bottle in most cases. Thus, a Colheita from the 1950 harvest, for example, tastes completely different with a 1975 bottling year than with a 1985 or 1995 bottling year, or an even later one.
