Legal information The Food Information Regulation (LMIV) introduced, among other things, mandatory information regarding nutrition declarations, instructions for use, and country-of-origin information for goods from abroad. This information must appear on all prepacked foods, even when they are intended for further processing (for the definition of prepacked foods, see Article 2(2)(e) of the LMIV). Before the LMIV came into force, this information only had to be declared on packaging intended for the end consumer. The labeling obligations under the LMIV generally also apply to non-prepacked foods (so-called loose goods), although certain exceptions apply.
