Maca is a root tuber that grows in the Peruvian Andes and has been used by local people for thousands of years for its vitalizing and energizing properties. When Inca warriors went into battle, they took maca. Today, maca remains a staple in many Peruvian households and is available at markets throughout the country. Our 100% pure maca (Lepidium meyenii) powder is made from the root tuber of a maca plant cultivated in the highlands of the Andes for more than 2,000 years. Gelatinization is an extraction and instantization process intended primarily to remove starch, which makes up approximately one quarter of the root's dry mass. Unlike raw powder, maca extrudate may be concentrated at a ratio of 4:1, meaning that in such cases only one quarter of the usual average daily amount of raw powder is required.
