2021 Chteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition Rouge from Domaine Chante Cigale, Appellation dOrigine Protge, Rhne, France (0.75 L). This classic Chteauneuf is characterized by the soft, rich character of Grenache. It has a dark purple color, an appealing nose with spicy and ripe fruit notes, and is pleasant and easy to drink. The wine is produced from manually harvested grapes that are selectively sorted, followed by 2835 days of maceration fermentation. It is aged 70% in concrete tanks and 30% in new barrels. The vineyard soils consist of rounded river stones and limestone. Recommended with game, grilled red meat or red meat in sauce, coq au vin, and mature cheese. Aging potential: 1015 years. Domaine Chante Cigale, located in the village of Chteauneuf-du-Pape, has been owned by the Sabon-Favier family for generations and is still exclusively operated by the family. Recently, Christian Favier handed the reins to his son Alexandre. The estate owns more than 50 hectares of vineyards in the Chteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
