The Heart Rate Click features Maxim's integrated MAX30100 pulse oximetry and heart-rate sensor. The optical sensor derives its readings from the emission of two wavelengths of lightone red and one infraredand measures the absorption of pulsating blood with a photodetector. The signal is processed by a low-noise analog signal-processing unit and transferred to the target MCU via the microBUS I2C interface. Developers of end-user applications should note that excessive movement and temperature changes may negatively affect the readings. Excessive pressure can also restrict capillary blood flow and therefore affect data reliability. A programmable INT pin is also available.
