Plant: A small pepper plant with dried berries similar in color and size to black pepper. Origin: Native to the cool, temperate rainforests of the Australian states of Tasmania, Victoria, and New South Wales. It grows on shrubs reaching 2 to 10 m in height. The leaves, which are approximately 412 cm long, are also used as a spice. Creamy white flowers appear in summer, followed by black berries in autumn. Flavor: Slightly sweet at first, then very hot.
