Founded in 1935, the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Aegion, Greece (P.E.S. Union) consists of 44 agricultural cooperatives with approximately 6,000 active farmer members. P.E.S. Union operates in its own new and modern complex, which includes processing and standardization plants for currants, olive oil, and citrus fruits. The union employs approximately 200 highly qualified people at its facility. The main olive varieties of the Aegion region are Koutsourelia and Koroneiki. Koutsourelia is a variety traditionally grown in the region and produces fruit exclusively for olive oil production, while production of the famous Greek Koroneiki variety began in recent years. Healthy olives are harvested using traditional methods and immediately transported for pressing to the oil mills of the unions member cooperatives. The oil mills are spread throughout the villages, where knowledge and passion meet low temperatures to produce extra virgin olive oil.
