Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is one of the polyunsaturated fatty acids that the body produces only in small amounts. Alongside evening primrose and blackcurrant, our native borage has one of the highest concentrations of gamma-linolenic acid. Quality classification: refined cold-pressed Fatty oils are refined for various reasons, primarily for purification and processing. Unwanted components such as pigments, odor compounds, bitter substances, colorants, and metal ions are neutralized through physical and chemical processes. Refined oil is also more shelf-stable and heat-resistant as a result. With cold-pressed oil, the quality of the raw materials is particularly important, as the oil is not otherwise changed apart from pressing and filtration. Its odor, taste, and color remain intact and are characteristic of the oil. Which oil is preferable depends on various factors. For example, if cold-pressed oil is stored for too long and not cool enough, potentially harmful substances may develop. When stored properly and used promptly, cold-pressed oil generally retains most of its constituents. Due to their high protein content, cold-pressed oils may trigger allergies. From both a nutritional-physiological perspective and for use in natural cosmetics, refined oils are scarcely inferior to cold-pressed oils.
