50 ml Botanical name: Lavandula angustifolia. Aroma: Fresh, floral. Extraction method: Steam distillation. Origin: Bulgaria. Chemical constituents: Linalyl acetate, linalool, cis--ocimene. History: When Ren-Maurice Gattefoss was injured in an explosion in his laboratory in 1910, he treated his burns with lavender, after which they healed remarkably quickly and completely without scarring. It is still used today for burns, including in hospitals, because of its pain-relieving, antiseptic, and skin-healing properties. The name lavender, with its therapeutic effects, is derived from the Latin word lavare, meaning to wash, which highlights the plants strong cleansing character in many respects. A wonderful antiseptic, and since it has found an elegant use on the skin, it can be applied directly and undiluted to the skin, including open skin and cuts. It is also ideal for children and essential in every first-aid kit. Lavender also helps with pain and itching and can accelerate healing processes. It is cleansing not only for the body but also for the mindenergizing. Directions: For minor everyday burns, apply directly to the affected area. Ideal for sunburn: simply add one or two drops of oil to a moisturizer or aloe vera gel and apply generously as an after-sun treatment. Lavender hydrosol is also a wonderful refreshment during hot weather. As a mouthwash, add one or two drops of oil to a glass of water, stir vigorously, and use immediatelydo not swallow. Useful for bad breath and oral thrush. For all throat conditions, such as tonsillitis, infections, and laryngitis, prepare the same mixture, gargle for a longer period, and spit it out.
