Triethyl Citrate is produced by esterifying citric acid and ethanol (alcohol). It belongs to the group of enzyme inhibitors, substances that inhibit the enzymatic breakdown of sweat, thus preventing odor formation. Additionally, it is used in creams and lotions as a spreading aid and penetration enhancer, particularly beneficial in sunscreen formulations. It is soluble in oils and alcohol, but very difficult to dissolve in water. For use in aqueous-alcoholic deodorant formulations, a solubilizer like Softfeel G10 LW is required.
